Mapua Adventures
The Waimea Estuary is the largest in the South Island and is an internationally significant habitat for migratory waders. Our tours provide an intimate and comprehensive experience, and allow close encounters with the abundant birdlife, including Godwits, Royal Spoonbills, White Heron, a Caspian Tern colony and many other species. Tours operate three hours either side of high tide, November to April. Private charters are available year-round. Bookings are essential as tours cater for two to eight passengers per trip. Mapua Adventures operates from Mapua Wharf, just 30 minutes from Nelson and home to several great restaurants, galleries and one of New Zealand’s best aquariums.
