Albatross Encounter
Within close proximity of the beautiful Kaikoura Peninsula, range a fantastic array of albatross, petrels, shearwaters, terns, shags and gulls.

Albatross Encounter is a dedicated bird watching tour by boat, offering the opportunity to 'get up close and personal' to the magnificent albatross which are found here in the Kaikoura coastal area. It has been said that Kaikoura offers a unique opportunity to see the largest number of ocean going bird species for any coastal area of similar size in the world.
Unique points about the tour are:
- Short distance to the birds
- The variety of species seen on any one tour
- Getting right up close to the birds (we chum to bring the birds in close)
From albatross, mollymawks, petrels, shearwaters, terns and much more, there is a vast array of seabirds to be seen. Sighting sheets are filed from each tour to enable us to pass on useful information to those with an interest and any unusual sightings are also noted. If photography is your interest then prepare to be amazed and bring plenty of film!
Tours operate daily, weather permitting at the times of 6.00am. 9.00am, 1.00pm and 4.00pm and are approximately 2.5 hours in duration.
Please note – minimum numbers of four passengers are required for the 6.00am and 4.00pm departures
