Kelly Tarlton's Antarctic Encounter and Underwater World

Beneath Auckland's Tamaki Drive is a wonderland of snow, ice and water. The Antarctic Encounter is an experience full of exciting and unique opportunities to explore the wilds of the Antarctic - past, present and beyond. Kelly Tarlton's is home to very vibrant and playful colonies of King and Gentoo Penguins. Be part of their enclosure and experience how these amazing animals live and play in their natural habitat of snow, ice and very cold water when you travel through their enclosure on the Penguin enclosure's 'Snowcat' journey.

In the Underwater World travel deep beneath the ocean on a moving walkway. Through an acrylic tunnel you will experience a scuba diver's view as a myriad of ocean life surrounds you. See giant stingray glide overhead, see moray eels lurking in the rocks and then come face to face with the awesome predators of the deep - sharks - only centimeters away.

Visit the new exhibit, Stingray Bay. Stingray Bay shows off Kelly Tarlton's stingrays to their best advantage in a giant 350,000 litre open-topped tank that is 2.6 metres at its deepest point and constructed of crystal clear acrylic for optimum viewing. See these 'remarkable winged creatures' at close quarters.

Open: 9am - 6pm daily. Last entry at 5pm.
