Experience an evening of ritual, cultural performance, storytelling and feasting. Share in the powhiri, an ancient ceremony of welcome, and enter a pre-European Maori village nestled in native forest. The village comes alive with the sights, sounds and activities of days gone by, including haka, poi, tattooing, weaving, carving and warrior training – with visitors given the opportunity to participate. Witness earth being scraped away from the hangi pit to reveal food cooked on hot stones. Enter the meeting house and enjoy a powerful cultural performance before feasting on the hangi meal!
