Christchurch to remain main tourism gateway

After last week’s earthquake Christchurch International Airport is currently working closely with the tourism industry to ensure Christchurch can remain a major gateway for tourists travelling in New Zealand’s South Island.

At 12:51pm on Tuesday 22 February, Christchurch City in New Zealand’s South Island was struck by a 6.3 magnitude earthquake. Since that time, the city’s central business district has been closed while emergency services clear the area.
