Te Puia

Welcome to New Zealand’s Maori Cultural Centre, Te Puia. We take our name from the pa, or Maori fort, that once protected this valley and its people. Today, Te Puia is a place where we welcome all visitors and let them discover its many unique treasures. Whatever you choose to do at Te Puia, you’ll undertake a journey; one that will take you into the heart of Maori culture.

Our key attractions include:

Carving & Weaving Schools

See the craftsmen and women carving and weaving as they have for centuries. Many works are also for sale.

Whakarewarewa Geothermal Valley
An extraordinary place packed with all kinds of geothermal activity, including the legendary Pohutu geyser.

Guided Tours
Tours with our expert guides depart regularly throughout the day. Hear some of the historic stories of the Maori people. Visit Rotowhio Marae, including the traditional meeting house. Book in for one of the scheduled concert performances. VIP guided tours can also be arranged.

Mai Ora – Evening Experience
An unforgettable evening that will transport you into Maori culture and history, held in the atmospheric Rotowhio Marae. See the magnificent Pohutu Geyser under lights.
