Whirinaki Rainforest Guided Walks and Treks

Feel the friendliness. sense the spirituality.
This is the essence of the Whirinaki Rainforest Guided Walks and Treks programme, based in the heart of Te Urewera, the wild and scencally spectacular lands of the central North Island. One-day Eco-cultural Walks and three day treks are the highlights of what is offered in this internationally acclaimed rainforest, where giant ancient trees tower to 65 metres - species with their origins in the jurrasic era 200 million years ago.
This is the ancestral land of the Iwi of Te Urewera Ngati Whare and Tuhoe - the revered Children of the Mist - and it is they who guide manuhiri (visitors) through the forest, telling the myths, legends and history of their tipuna (ancestors) over centuries. Joining them will leave memories never forgotten.
