Milford, Routeburn and Kepler Independent Great Walks

Come and explore the Great Walks through Fiordland National Park in the heart of Te Wäihipounamu - South West New Zealand World Heritage Area. Highlights include alpine herb fields, glacial valleys, beech forests, waterfalls, crystal clear rivers and towering mountains.

A reasonable standard of fitness is required. Walkers need to carry all their own equipment including sleeping bags, good wet weather clothing, food, cooking and eating utensils. At times you will be walking over rough and uneven surfaces, up to 20km each day. Huts have gas cooking rings, mattresses, flush toilets and cold water. A full range of transport services is available to all three tracks. No guided or commercial parties are permitted on Independent Walk bookings.

    2008 – 2009 Season 28 October 2008 - 29 April 2009 (inclusive). Bookings open 15 July each year for the coming season. Online bookings can be made via www.doc.govt.nz

  • Milford Track - 4 day/3 night package (hut accommodation only).
  • Routeburn Track - 2 or 3 night packages (huts and limited camping).
  • Kepler Track - 2 or 3 night packages (huts and limited camping).

No bookings required on Greenstone/Caples, Hollyford or Dusky tracks. For information about these tracks contact Fiordland National Park Visitor Centre at www.doc.govt.nz
