Wellington is one of the world’s top cities to visit!

01 November 2010

New Zealand’s capital city Wellington has been voted one of the top cities in the world to visit. Lonely Planet’s guide Best in Travel in 2011 compiled a Top Ten which saw Wellington proudly
take fourth place!

Based on feedback from travellers, tweeters, bloggers and in-house judges, Best in Travel in 2011 refers to New Zealand’s Wellington as ‘the coolest little capital in the world’ and recognises its outstanding arts plus culinary and film scenes alongside cultural events. Wellington was only beaten by New York, Tangier and Tel Aviv (in that order), and it now proudly holds its ranking above cities such as Valencia, Iquitos and Delhi. Australia’s Newcastle was the only other Australasian city to make the list (in ninth place).

With the Rugby World Cup 2011 just around the corner, Wellingtonians are of course thrilled about the high-profile endorsement. Wellington currently has more than eight million tourists a year, and with more than 85,000 visitors expected to come to New Zealand for the Rugby World Cup 2011, a great proportion of them are bound to explore the world’s fourth top city for themselves!
