The Kauri Museum features outstanding displays about the magnificent Kauri tree and New Zealand’s pioneer settlers. Highlights include a turning steam sawmill display, a huge 22.5-metre-long Kauri slab, the largest collection of Kauri gum in the world, lifelike mannequins, and a fantastic collection of antique Kauri furniture. The Museum Shop offers a superb selection of Kauri products. Cafés and accommodation are located nearby.

Making the sale: A great place to view New Zealand heritage – just off SH 12 on the Twin Coast Discovery Highway en route to the Kauri trees of Waipoua Forest.
